The name means "One who honors God"
Timothy was a trusted and faithful associate of Paul and Silvanus. All three are linked in the address of the First Letter to the Thessalonians, and the "we" phrases continue throughout the letter. Not long after they left Thessalonia and had reached Athens, Paul's concern for the Thessalonian Christians became so great that he sent Timothy back to them, so that he might confirm them in the faith. Paul knew that they had been undergoing a time of persecution, and he was eager to have them encouraged in their period of difficulty. And above all, Paul was anxious to have a direct report about the spiritual welfare of the young converts who made up the church at Thessalonia. Timothy had been sent and had returned with the good news of their steadfastness in the faith, and of their continued affection for Paul. The picture of Timothy that emerges from Paul's Letter to the Corinthians is of a man shy and inexperienced, but "beloved and faithful in the Lord:. His strength appeared not to lie in preaching and leadership but in steadfastness and commitment to the ministry.
Who are we?
Just as St. Timothy was "faithful and steadfast", we see ourselves as a friendly and supportive congregation. We believe that the best congregation for people is the "one that serves its people" and "where its people serve the church".
Our tone is both casual and faithful. Christ calls each of us to be faithful according to the faith, gifts and experience given to each of us. We, therefore, expect that our belief in Jesus is what we have in common: but we do not expect that each of us will "look the same, talk the same, pray the same, or even live the same"
